Will Refugees Save Or Sink The German Economy?
The German economy may be the bright spot in a sluggish Eurozone economy, but it faces two problems: overreliance on exports, and weak population growth.
Back in the late 1970s and the early 1980s, there was another economy which was the bright spot in a sluggish global economy and faced similar problems.
The Japanese economy.
Today, the Japanese economy is no longer the bright spot of the world economy. A stronger yen and weak population growth hampered economic growth.
The American economy, by contrast, has managed to stay in the spotlight for decades, as America doesn’t share either of these problems with Japan. America has a large and vibrant domestic economy; and steady population growth which gets a boost from an open immigration policy.
